Using Tablets Can Be a Pain in the Neck in Fanwood

Though electronic tablets deliver instant information at the touch of a finger, they can also cause neck and shoulder pain.

A survey of 412 public university student, staff, faculty, and alumni revealed the touchscreen tablet users were more likely to report stiffness, soreness, or aching pain in the neck, upper back/shoulder, arms/hands, or head.

While most participants categorized any discomfort as moderate, 10% reported severe levels of discomfort and 15% said it affected their sleep quality.

The authors say the findings are cause for concern due to the growing popularity of electronic tablets and similar devices.
