Pregnant Women May Need to
Limit Omega-6 Consumption

Top Fanwood chiropractor Eric Chludzinski of Fanwood Back Relief Center explains how pregnant woman may need to limit their omega-6 consumption.

Linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid that is commonly found in foods such as potato chips and vegetable oil, has been shown to promote inflammation. In a new study, researchers observed that when pregnant rats consumed three times the recommended intake of linoleic acid, the subjects had higher concentrations of inflammatory proteins in their livers, increased circulating concentrations of a protein that can cause contraction of the uterus during pregnancy, and lower levels of a hormone that regulates growth and development. Researcher Dr. Deanne Skelly notes, "It is important for pregnant women to consider their diet, and our research is yet another example that potentially consuming too much of a certain type of nutrient can have a negative impact on the growing baby."
