To perform a proper push-up, start on all fours and position your hands slightly wider than the shoulders.

Place your toes on the floor, creating a straight line from the shoulders to the feet. While keeping your core muscles engaged, lower and lift your body by bending and straightening your elbows. If this is too difficult, place your knees on the floor instead of your toes.
For a more challenging workout, add an exercise ball under the hips, knees, or feet.
